Poached egg in microwave

I tried to poach an egg in the microwave with 1,00 watts because it seemed quicker. This is my second time experimenting poaching eggs in microwave but this time together in a bowl.

One recipe said, “to pierce the yolk with a fork or needle to prevent it from exploding and to cover the dish to contain mess”. “Another tip is to cover the measuring cup or mug with plastic wrap”. Another advised “microwaving for 1 minute, then in 30-second bursts if needed, and to drain the egg on a paper towel before serving.” Another said, “recommend cooking your egg in 30 second intervals so you can check on it intermittently to prevent undercooking or overcooking your egg.”

To poach an egg in the microwave effectively, “use hot water and add 1-2 Tbs of white vinegar. Salt water can help keep the egg shaped better”. I used my last egg, but it still had some uneven white parts. Recipes often vary in the water amount, “but aim for it to be 4 inch above the egg”.

I’m glad it’s cooked and safe to eat, even if it’s not pretty. I’m satisfied I tried using one bowl and didn’t drain the eggs on a paper towel, instead transfer to another bowl . Let’s microwave 2 poached eggs together!!!

Ingredients

2 eggs
1 cup of water
1 Tbs white vinegar
1/2 Tsp salt
some black pepper

Method

Followed one of the recipe methods: Pour water, white vinegar and salt into a large, microwave-safe bowl. Then beat with a small balloon whisk until well-combined. The vinegar helps the egg whites set firmly. Place bowl in microwave and heat water at 100% power in 1 minute intervals, about 4 minutes total.

Using oven mitts, carefully remove bowl from microwave and gently crack two eggs into water, making sure they are fully submerged and sitting side-by-side without breaking the yolks. Return bowl to microwave and cook at 80% power until the whites are fully set but yolks are still soft. Place a microwave-safe small plate over the top of the bowl to trap the steam and prevent any splattering.

Cook on high power for 30 seconds first. Then cook a further 30 seconds. Check the firmness of the whites. If they are still translucent or liquid, microwave in additional 15-20 second bursts until the whites are opaque and set, keeping the yolks soft.

Use a slotted spoon to carefully lift the eggs out of the hot water, allowing any excess liquid to drip back into the bowl. Transfer to another bowl. Rest them briefly, and sprinkles some black pepper before serving. Enjoy with a cup of brewed coffee!!!
