Here’s another spooky treat I have created. Who doesn’t love chocolate? My mousse is eggless and I had added 1 gelatine powder and peppermint essence. I am trying to finish off the eyeballs, which are so hard to bite; I don’t want to give my elderly neighbours tooth problems. I, myself find it hard to bite into them. After taking the picture, I took out the eyeballs and was disappointed that they had to go into the bin. I would rather throw them out than go to the dentist.
Google: “A mousse (/ˈmuːs/, French: [mus]; lit. ’foam’) is a soft prepared food that incorporates air bubbles to give it a light and airy texture. Depending on preparation techniques, it can range from light and fluffy to creamy and thick. A mousse may be sweet or savoury.”
“Sweet mousses are typically made with whipped egg whites, whipped cream, or both, and flavoured with one or more of chocolate, coffee, caramel, puréed fruits, or various herbs and spices, such as mint or vanilla. In the case of some chocolate mousses, egg yolks are often stirred into melted chocolate to give the final product a richer mouthfeel. Mousses are also typically chilled before being served, which gives them a denser texture. Additionally, mousses are often frozen into silicone molds and unmoulded to give the mousse a defined shape. Sweetened mousse is served as a dessert or used as an airy cake filling. It is sometimes stabilised with gelatine.”
My elderly neighbours were pleased to have chocolate mousse without the eyeballs too. They said even their dentures could not bite into it. To my surprise, two of my neighbours told me they were praying that I would bring chocolate mousse. Well, it’s delightful, smooth, and delicious. Let’s turn mousse into a spooky dessert for chocolate lovers!!!
Ingredients
500 ml thickened cream
250 g dark melting chocolate chips
1 Tsp peppermint essence
1 Tsp gelatine powder
1 Tbs hot boiling water
Spooky decorations
eyeballs
colourful sprinkles
raspberries
red food colouring
Method
Put chocolate into a big metal bowl. Heat half of the thickened cream in a pot on medium-high heat until bubbles begin to form around the edges. Pour the hot cream over the chocolate and let it sit for 30 seconds. Stirs with a whisk until chocolate melted, mixture is smooth and well combined. Put the hot boiling water into a heatproof glass, sprinkle gelatine powder into the hot boiling water and stir to mix well.
Place the glass with gelatine powder and water into microwave, heat 30 seconds then stir until dissolved. Pour in gelatine mixture, the remaining thickened cream, peppermint essence and whisk again till combined. Cover and chill in fridge for 3-4 hours or overnight. Beat the mousse with electric beater until soft peak form. Don’t over beat. Spoon onto glasses and chill again for 30 minutes before serving for fluffier texture.
Just before serving sprinkles colourful sprinkles on to the mousse. Then garnish with eyeballs stuffed into 3 raspberries per glass, then using a toothpick dip into red food colouring and make some lines around the eyeballs, drips some on the mousse. Enjoy!!!!
