Google: “The current English name Halloween traces back to medieval Christianity. The word hallow is derived from the Middle and Old English words for holy. As a noun, it can also mean saint. In those days, the Christian holiday we know as All Saints’ Day was called All Hallows’ Day, and the day before, when an evening mass was held, was All Hallows’ Eve. That three-word name eventually got shortened to Halloween.”
I saw somewhere a recipe using ice cream cones. I thought since Halloween is coming up and I am having my nephew over. We will create our spooky ice cream together. Something fun for him to do and also to get him to be creative. Trying to get rid of leftovers: M&M mini chocolates, eyes balls and pepitas. Went to get the ice cream cones, strawberries, blueberries and sour cream. This is trial and error so I made half the recipe and change the ingredients to suit me.
Here’s something you can get your children to create their own ice cream. Make it a fun day or weekend activities or make it as a reward for them for being helpful, or scored great results in their education. Anyway, my time with my nephew is an enjoyable outcome as we both created our own ice cream. It’s spooky, colourful, creative and scary fun. Let’s make them!!!!
Ingredients
6 ice cream cones
100 g peppermint flavour chocolate, melted
125 g sour cream
1 1/2 Tbs honey
1/8 Tsp nutmeg powder
250 g strawberries, stems remove and cut to bite size, divide
100 g blueberries, divide
Garnish
1 strawberry stem
M & M mini chocolates
eyes balls
pepitas, reserve some to crush
walnuts
Method
Bring a pot with enough water to boil. Place chocolate in a metal bowl that sit tightly on the pot with boiling water. Stir the chocolate until melted, remove it from the pot. Once slightly cool, dip the top of each cone into the melted chocolate to coat. Sprinkle pepitas around the coated chocolate. Place cone on a glass that can hold it until chocolate set.
Meantime, put sour cream nutmeg powder and honey in another metal bowl and stir to smooth it. Place some strawberries and blueberries, mix well to combined.
The remaining strawberries and blueberries place in a bowl with some crushed pepitas and mix together with 1-2 Tbs melted chocolate.
Fill the cones with berries and chocolate, followed by sour cream mixture. Then mine I dollop some melted chocolate, place 1 strawberry stem and 2 eye balls and place 1 blueberry on. My nephew had 2 small pieces walnuts, a tiny bit of chocolate and place 3 eyes balls followed by M & mini chocolates and more pepitas. We enjoyed out time together making these ice creams. I forgot to take pictures of the other ice cream we created as we are excited and munching away.
Note: You can use real ice cream or make your own ice cream, you can use cream cheese instead of sour cream. You can use spiders, witches, or any spooky ingredients. You can use white chocolate, or any fruits of your choices, or nuts. You can add any spices but remember children may not like them, or they are allergic to nuts. You might want to use jelly beans, chocolate sprinkles. You might like to puree strawberries to make it look like blood.
