
Rump steak prices went up, but I still bought it because I was craving it. I also found caulilini and bought it since I haven’t had it in a while. When I searched how to steam caulilini using air fryer on Google, all the results showed cauliflower. However, I found a recipe that suggests adding 1/4 inch of water at the bottom of the air fryer basket, despite most recipes saying no liquid.
Today, I’m using the steam mode on my air fryer to cook caulilini. I placed a small metal pie dish with 1/8 inch of water at the bottom of the air fryer’s cup, and then I put the metal holes tray on top. I am adding it to my rump and salad. Praying that it will turn out and no damage to my 7L Smith & Nobel Air Fryer.

When placing the water-filled pie dish in the air fryer, be gentle to avoid spillage. After testing at 160°C for 2 minutes without success, increase the temperature to 180°C and cook for an additional 6 minutes. Finally, let it warm up for 1-2 minutes without burning. The result is a comforting, colourful, healthy, and delicious meal. Let it steam and roast in the air fryer.
Ingredients
7-8 stems of caulini
2 cherry tomatoes
1 rump steak
20 g butter
1-2 Tbs minced garlic
1 Tbs oil
spray oil
salt
black pepper
Method
Bring rump steak to room temperature from fridge 30 minutes.
Steam caulilini
Place the butter in a microwave safe bowl and melt it in 10 second intervals, 2-3 times, until melted. While the butter is melting, fill a small pie dish with a film of water about 1/8-1/4 inch. Then place it into the air fryer cup followed by the flat metal tray, ensuring it sits securely on top of the pie dish. Check the foil lined and sprayed a bit of oil baking tray with caulilini. Place it in, ensuring it’s not too close to the heating element. Once it’s at a safe distance, remove the caulilini baking tray and set it aside.
When butter is melted, bring out from microwave, add in 1 Tbs minced garlic into melted butter, salt and pepper. Stir to mix well. Using food brush, brush the butter mixture onto the caulilini, making sure caulilini is coated well. Now plug in the air fryer, place the caulilini baking tray on top of the prepared pie dish and flat metal tray. Set temperature at 160 degrees C, steam for 2 minutes. Bring out to check with a knife prick into the thickest stems to see if cooked. Not cooked.
Before returning cup back to the air fryer machine, bring out caulilini baking tray, brush with some more butter mixture, fill a drop or two water into the pie dish. Next place caulilini baking tray back in for a further 6 minutes, increased temperature to 180 degrees C, to ensure it was fully cooked without burning. Once it’s cooked and tender, bring out caulilini baking tray, removed the flat metal tray and pie dish using mitten as it’s very hot. Cover caulilini baking tray with a tented foil.
Air fryer roast rump
Rub oil, salt, and lot of black pepper all over the rump steak and place it in the lightly sprayed oil and lined foil tray. Next place the rump steak tray in the air fryer cup and into the machine, roast rump steak for 6 minutes. Bring out the cup and turn rump steak over, spray a tiny bit of oil on the rump and tiny bit on the foil tray; roast for a further 6 minutes. When rump steak done to your likeness. Let rump steak rest for 5-7 minutes, before plating up. Meantime, place the caulilini in tray and covered with foil back into air fryer to warmed up about 3-5 minutes at 180 degrees C.
Start plating up salad on the black square plate, dress with warmed up again some butter mixture. When rump steak rested time up, plate rump steak below the salad. When caulilini warmed up, place caulilini at the bottom of rump steak. Spoon some butter mixture over the caulilini and place one caulilini on top of rump steak and spoon the remaining butter mixture over the caulilini on top of rump and over the rump steak too. Enjoy with a glass of red wine!!!
