Bought a small coffee espresso machine on sale in 2014 as my sister gave me a packet of coffee powder. I tried making a latte. For some reason, this skim milk latte recipe which I had written in 2014 was nowhere to be found. Then a few days later, this picture appeared out of nowhere.
Anyway, I am thankful to God for bringing back this picture. Though my machine is broken, it’s sad to throw out. Not buying anymore coffee espresso machine, no room to put and I am not a fan of espresso coffee. I only drink coffee once a day and instant coffee; less gadget to wash up. Can go without the espresso machine.
The secret of being thankful is learning to see everything from God’s perspective. God’s world: earth is my classroom. Thank you, God for the opportunity to TRUST YOU MORE and thank you for this picture too. My latte is with skim milk. Let’s get the skim milk latte recipe back to life!!!
Ingredients
18g grinded espresso (powder)
250 ml skim milk
dusting chocolate
Method
The very first thing that needs to be done is turning on the espresso machine. Make sure to switch on the steamer as well, for later. For pulling an espresso, usually wait until it’s up to 93° C. Once it heats up, it’s ready to go!
This is an important one. Before making the shot, pack it in. To do this, just press down into the portafilter with a coffee tamper with about 30lbs of force for a few seconds. Google: “This process ensures uniformity of extraction by evening out and packing the grounds to ensure equal, consistent water contact when it is forced through the portafilter.”
Now it’s time to pull a lovely shot of espresso! One step closer to enjoying a delicious latte. For this step, just set it into the espresso machine and lock it in place. The handle should be turned slightly to the left, pushed up into the machine then turn it the right, centering it, to secure it. Next, pull the lever up and wait as the water gets pushed through the portafilter. This will take about 20-30 seconds for a single shot. Once the shot is done, pull the lever back down to the starting position. Take the shot of espresso and pour it into any cup.
Time to turn this into a latte!!! Do not just pour the milk in; it needs to be steamed. Pour the milk into a frothing jug and then submerge the froth assistor deep into milk. Turn the steamer on. Steam the milk so that it has around 2-3 cm of foam on top.
Hold the jug so that the spout is about 3-4 cm above the cup and pour the milk in steadily. As the volume within the cup increases, bring the jug as close to the surface of the drink as possible whilst aiming to pour into the centre. Once the milk jug is almost touching the surface of the coffee, tilt to speed up the rate of pour. As you accelerate, the milk will hit the back of the cup and start naturally folding in on itself to create a pattern on the top. Sprinkles some chocolate dusting over the froth. Enjoy!!!
