Bought Brussels sprouts on sale. Meat isn’t on sale. This is my simple dinner. I called it Meatless Friday.
Google: “Brussels sprouts are a cruciferous vegetable with numerous health benefits, including being a good source of vitamins C and K, fiber, and antioxidants. They may help reduce inflammation, support gut health, and protect against certain cancers and heart disease. Brussels sprouts are small, round, green vegetables that grow on a main stalk. They are a type of cruciferous vegetable, along with broccoli, cauliflower, and cabbage. The fiber in Brussels sprouts can promote healthy digestion and support gut microbiome balance. Brussels sprouts may help lower blood pressure and improve cholesterol levels, contributing to heart health. “
Google: “To bake Brussels sprouts, preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C) and roast them for 20-30 minutes. Halfway through, you can rotate or stir the sprouts for even browning. The exact time may vary depending on the size of your sprouts, but they should be tender and golden brown around the edges when done.”
I am trying out baking method today. My Brussel sprouts are golden and crisp on the outside, and irresistibly tender on the inside. Let’s bake!!!
Ingredients
250 g Brussel sprouts
salt
black pepper
2 Tbs oil
drizzle lemon juice
Method
Preheat your oven to 220°C. Trim the Brussels sprouts, clicking off any tatty outer leaves, then wash and dry well and place in a large shallow plate. Drizzle oil and season salt and black pepper.
Wash your hands clean or wear gloves, to mix everything together until the sprouts are well coated, then spread them out in a single layer on to foil line baking tray. Then drizzle some lemon juice over them.
Bake for 20-25 minutes first, if still not tender further bake a further 5 minutes or until tender and golden brown around the edges. Roasted Brussels are best served warm, but they are also good at room temperature.
Note: Oven temperature varies. Also, the amount of Brussel sprout you added in. Leftovers will keep for up to 4 days in the refrigerator.
