
I learned that the substitute for buttermilk is sour cream. I have been using sour cream in most of my cakes and panna cotta. A few days ago, I found buttermilk in the supermarket nearby; out of curiosity, I bought it. I also bought vanilla custard on sale. I decided to make panna cotta with it. In addition to that, I am using honey and red food colouring, which is something different from most of my panna cotta.

I am glad my panna cotta turns out wobbly with red honey dripping down making patchy looks. It’s creamy, slightly tangy, perfectly delicious for ending a heavy meal. Let’s make wobbly dessert!!!!

Ingredients
600 ml buttermilk (See Notes)
600 ml vanilla custard
1/2 c granulated sugar
6 Tsp gelatine powder
1 Tsp vanilla extract
water
Red honey
4 Tbs honey
1 1/2 Tbs hot boiling water
1 tiny drop of red food colouring
Method
Grease the jelly mould with oil and set aside. Mix gelatine powder with 4 Tbs of water in a bowl and set aside. Next, spoon about 2 Tbs of honey in to a bowl and add 1 Tbs of hot boiling water, stirring to mix. Then, add a tiny drop of red food colouring. Stir to mix well.
Put vanilla custard, sugar, and vanilla extract in a pot on medium heat. Stir occasionally until bubbles form around the edges, about 5 minutes. Once the sugar dissolves, remove from the hob.
Stir the gelatine mixture again; if it has hardened, add about 2 Tbs of water, stir again, and add it to the warm custard mixture. Stir until the gelatine dissolves.
Once the custard gelatine mixture cooled, add buttermilk and stir. Pour the red honey into the prepared mold. Using a ladle, spoon the cooled mixture over the red honey. Cover the mold with the lid and put it in the fridge for at least 4-6 hours or overnight.
Before serving, flip over onto a plate. Unmould the panna cotta. The red honey will drip down. Wipe the middle of the panna cotta plate dry and all around. Serve with a cup of coffee, tea, or dessert wine. Enjoy!!!


Note: You can use 1 packet of the unflavoured gelatine powder. You can use 2 cups of heavy cream instead of bought vanilla custard. You can omit red honey; add fruits or pureed fruits juice. You can use cups or bowls instead of jelly mould.
