Two days ago, my sister brought me some of her three different types of apples. I have some oats leftover, so I decided to bake apples and oats.
“Royal Gala apples are sweet, crisp, and nutritious with red-orange striped skin, ideal for fresh eating. They are low-calorie, high in fiber, antioxidants, and Vitamin C, supporting heart health, digestion, weight management, and immune function. With approximately 80–116 calories, these apples offer energy from natural fructose and contain beneficial potassium. They are versatile in recipes such as pies, tarts, and sauces, and are also great for making fresh juice.”
“Oats are nutritious, gluten-free whole grains high in vitamins, minerals, and soluble fiber, particularly beta-glucan, which supports heart health, manages weight, and improves gut health. They benefit those with type 2 diabetes due to their glycemic index and possess anti-inflammatory properties. Colloidal oatmeal can soothe skin irritations and treat eczema.”
“Apple pie spice is a warm, aromatic blend of ground spices, typically featuring cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger, and allspice or cardamom. It is used to flavor pies, baked goods, oatmeal, and beverages, offering a sharper, more complex flavor profile than cinnamon alone. Homemade versions can be stored in airtight containers.”
This is a simple recipe and most of the ingredients you would have them in your pantry. I am glad that my apple oat baked turned out delicious even though it look bland; no colourful garnish. Let’s bake!!!!
Ingredients
3-5 royal gala, cored and diced
300 g rolled oats
1/2 Tsp baking powder
1 Tsp vanilla essence
1/2 Tsp salt
60 g apple sauce, bought
20 g butter, melted
1 c skim milk
1 Tbs oil
1 Tsp cinnamon powder
2 Tsp apple pie spice
honey
water
Method
Preheat oven to 180 degrees C. Grease with butter or spray oil on baking dish. In a large bowl, mix together rolled oats, cinnamon, apple pie spice, baking powder, salt, skim milk, apple sauce, oil, butter, honey, and vanilla.
Fold in diced apple. Pour mixture into prepared baking dish. Bake about 45 minutes or until the center has set and a skewer comes out clean. Removed from oven. Serve hot with drizzle of honey, more apple or dollop ice cream. Enjoy!!!
