My sister went fishing at a pier. Didn’t get any fish but she got me a kilo of mussels. I got it for $10. Anyway, this is the last batch of mussels that my sister bought for me. I wanted to try a different method using mussels. As I have done baked and steamed with leftovers thought my mussels should stand out beautifully like the Learning tower of Pisa in Italy and the Millennium Tower.
Google: “Mussels are bivalve shellfish rich in high-quality protein, omega-3 fatty acids, and essential vitamins and minerals like iron, zinc, and selenium. They support heart and brain health, boost the immune system, and provide nutrients for muscle development and skin health. Omega-3s can lower blood pressure and reduce inflammation, while vitamins A and B12 are important for eye health.”
There are many recipes for baking mussels on websites. Some recipes are simple, talk you through you tube, and some with extra ordinary ingredients. Unlike mine, I experiment and explore using the basic ingredients I have in my pantry: garlic and oil.
The mussels open beautifully and were satisfying and yummy great even though not presentative. Let’s bake!!!
Ingredients
10 mussels, remove beard and clean well
2 Tbs garlic minced
25 g butter
oil
salt
black pepper
Method
Preheat oven to 230 degrees C. Place butter into the oven proof bowl. Line mussels in the bowl with butter.
Spoon the minced garlic over mussels, drizzle some oil and cover tightly with foil. Place bowl in the middle rack of oven. Bake for 15 minutes or until mussels are open in the middle rack of the oven. Discard any unopened mussels. Phew!!! all my mussels open. Thanks to God for his help.
Be careful bringing out the hot bowl; use mittten. Serve immediately with a cold beer. Enjoy!!!!
Note: If you are making a kilo or pound of mussels, increase your other ingredients. You can add any ingredients along with the mussels, such as sliced mushrooms, herbs, and vegetables: capsicums, tomatoes, or capers. Also, you can add prawns or squid.
