Ham egg on buttered toast

I was hungry for ham slices, eggs, and toast. I bought 8 ham slices from the deli yesterday. I decided to cook the egg with a runny yolk, as it was my first time. I found a recipe that says to baste the egg with hot water, so I’m trying that method.

“Ham slices are thin cured pieces of pork from a pig’s hind leg, providing protein, B vitamins, selenium, and other minerals. Moderate consumption can support muscle building, immune system health, and weight management by promoting satiety. However, as a processed meat, they are high in sodium and preservatives like nitrates, which pose health risks if consumed excessively. While ham is beneficial due to its high-quality protein and essential vitamins, high intake may lead to increased risks of chronic diseases. Therefore, it is advisable to consume ham slices in moderation to reap the benefits while minimizing the risks.”

“A chicken egg is a nutrient-rich food that contains high-quality protein, beneficial fats, and essential vitamins and minerals, including vitamin D, B12, choline, lutein, and zeaxanthin. Eating chicken eggs aids in muscle repair, supports brain function, provides antioxidants for eye health, and can help increase “good” HDL cholesterol. They are an economical source of nutrition, rich in B vitamins, essential minerals like selenium and zinc, and heart-healthy unsaturated fats. Additionally, eggs are crucial for energy production and overall body function.”

My breakfast is healthy, satisfying and delicious. Let’s cook!!!

Ingredients

1 buttered toast, cut into 3 sections
1 egg
1 ham slice
1/4 c hot water, plus extra
1 Tsp oil
1 Tsp butter
salt
black pepper

Method

Heat oil and butter in a pan over medium heat until butter is melted. Gently swirl to evenly coat the pan. Crack an egg into the center of the pan; season with salt. Cook, undisturbed, until the egg white just starts to change colour, about 30-35 seconds, but the yolk is still runny.

Add 1/4 c hot water to pan; cook, basting eggs with water, if needed more water; add some more water until whites are just set and yolks are still runny, about 2 minutes. Place the egg on the prepared toast. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Serve immediately with a big mug of black coffee. Enjoy!!!
